Progressive Metal Soloing

by Stefan-Miladinov | 06 April 2015

Progressive Metal Soloing

Thank you for checking out this lesson and I hope you’ll enjoy learning new things from it, as much as I enjoyed making it for you. This lesson features a solo composed of phrases in a mixed style, but mainly influenced by John Petrucci, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen. Other than the regular phrases, whose structure is clearly in the styles of the players mentioned above, you’ll find a few licks strongly influenced by gypsy jazz guitar players, thus featuring my personal style which still in development, but incorporates the mindset of a gypsy jazz guitar player in a progressive metal situation.

Techniques used in this lesson are: Alternate Picking , Sweep Picking , Legato and Tapping.

This lesson can improve your overall phrasing, but it emphasizes bending, sliding and vibrato.

Every phrase is improvised/composed from the perspective of a jazz player who outlines the chord changes.

The chord progression and scales:

Part 1 - G#7 / Emaj7 / F#7
Part 2 - Emaj7 / F#7

Scales used - G phrygian dominant, E Lydian, F# Mixolydian

In this package there are eight videos showing different parts of the solo – slow and fast , the main video, backing tracks in 3 different speeds, a guitar pro tab and a PDF tab included.

Make sure you learn it slow and then progressively develop your speed with the metronome.

I most sincerely hope you’ll have fun, learn new things, and improve your playing.

Cheers !!! \m/
