New Found Glory are an American Pop Punk band from Coral Springs, Florida. The were formed in 1997 by Jordan Pundik, Chad Gilbert, Steve Klein, Ian Grushka and Joe Moreno. Cyrus Bolooki replaced Joe Moreno early on and the line up has not changed since.
The band is well known for mixing pop melodies with fast tempo punk rock. They also feature many elements of hardcore music.
The song weʼre looking at is “At Least Iʼm Known For Something” which was featured on the bandʼs 2004 album “Catalyst”. This song is leaning more on the heavy side of New Found Glory with some fast hardcore style alternate picking on the low E5 chord.
Once again, as with every alternate picking example, the tone and control comes from relaxed technique. Practice slowly and loosen up that wrist!
Harmonically, the song isnʼt very complicated. Itʼs in E Major, and the majority of the song revolves around the E tonality. Itʼs a great example of how balancing rhythm, harmony and melody can create a strong, catchy song.
Iʼve included an image of the E Major scale with all itʼs degrees on the fretboard so when you analyze the song you can easily check whatʼs going on.
