Hello, and welcome to my lesson about the CAGED System. We're starting simple with just major chord shapes and root shapes. The root shapes will give you a great way to have reference points all over the neck and will enable you to visualize positions and keys all over the neck more effectively. These reference points are applicable to pentatonic scales, major/minor scales, major/minor chords, major/minor arpeggios and even three note per string scales.

We will take a look at how these reference points are applicable to major chords in this lesson. In future lessons, we'll take a look at other chords, scales, arpeggios and later, we will apply all this knowledge with some music theory and songs so you can see how it all works in real music.

The point of this series of lessons is to give you a much stronger understanding of how the fretboard is laid out so that you don't get lost when improvising or writing.

There is no tablature for this lesson because we are learning a concept that is much better presented with fretboard diagrams and visualization.

Best of luck with the lesson, and if you need any help you can contact me via the lesson comments section or in the forums.

Paul
